CLASS DESCRIPTION
ACTIVE HEARTS
This maintenance group based exercise class is designed to meet the needs of clients who have been diagnosed with a cardiovascular condition or who have other chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis or obesity. This class is also suited to those individuals who may be "at risk" of developing these conditions (eg pre diabetes, mild hypertension or high cholesterol)
Cardiac clients would be at least 12 weeks post cardiac event and have an appropriate medical clearance and referral from their Doctor. Group participants would also need to be appropriately screened and comprehensively assessed by our staff prior to engaging in the class. Clients who are less than 12 weeks post event are encouraged to attend our early Active Hearts program (Starter Package). Other options are also available.
The class format is circuit based allowing individuals to work at their own pace within a group environment. The types of exercises involve the entire body and include stretching to improve flexibility and joint mobility, a cardiovascular (cardio) component which is vital for heart health and overall fitness, followed by a functional strength and endurance component using a variety of equipment including therabands, swiss balls and free weights, balance and posture training, and a cool down. Participants are fully supervised and supported by our professional and friendly Exercise Physiologists. The class is run twice weekly for a duration of 45 minutes and is limited to 10 participants to maintain personal attention, supervision and support.
